jQuery bug #2847: :first-child selector does not work in IE if comment precedes element

In MEIE 6/7/8b1, the :first-child selector does not work if a comment is the first child; it does not work using either pure CSS nor using the jQuery selector engine. Both, however, work in Firefox and Safari.

The first list item in each of the following lists should end up being green:

• First LI with no preceding comment, so this should be green in IE
• Second LI
• Third LI

• First LI with a comment preceding
• Second LI
• Third LI

• First LI with a comment preceding
• Second LI
• Third LI
